While adjusting to life under lockdown due to a global pandemic, one thought emerges louder than any other—when can we see our loved ones again? As the days go on, the feeling of longing and not knowing becomes more and more unbearable. In this video, I explore the concept of the uncertainty of time even as time moves forward. Using the moon and stars I show the passage of time, while simultaneously using their circular motions to show its endlessness. Using time lapse photography to create this video adds to the idea that time is uncertain—in order to create a video that lasts a mere minute and half, roughly six total hours were spent taking photographs; time is vastly compressed, but simultaneously we can see a large passage of time. Walking back and forth in my backyard, I am confined, trapped in a place that once was a sanctuary, looking up and around for a way out. Through the use of light-painting I write out the thoughts that many of us have about seeing our friends, family, and loved ones once again, ending with a hopeful outlook of being able to see them soon, even though we may not know how soon “soon” really is.
